Three Take-Aways from Spring 2020

We’ve been reflecting on the final ten weeks of our school year and reviewing feedback from the distance learning survey. Here are three takeaways from this unusual Spring:

Tribes at MGCS

An MGCS education means excellent academics as well as experiences and traditions that are unique to our community.  One of those experiences is belonging to a “Tribe”. At the beginning of each school year, every K-8 student is placed in a tribe group made up of fourteen to sixteen students from all grades. These tribes meet regularly to build connections across grade levels, develop prayer partnerships, practice spiritual disciplines, and take part in various school events as a unit.  These student-led small groups provide a setting for biblical worldview development and reflect and reinforce our biblical worldview statement. Tribes are also an important tool in helping us achieve our expected student outcomes.   Tribes offer unique leadership development experiences and opportunities for our eighth grade students. Interdisciplinary Unit Studies...What and Why?

What is a unit study and why do we make them part of the MGCS experience?We believe …All students can learn. They need experiences that build the context for learning. Learning should be meaningful. It should connect to the real world in a real way so that they can make a difference in the sphere of influence they have been given. Learning should empower kids to make positive choices.Learning is collaborative and holistic. Our world functions under the premise of relationship. Often in education we isolate our subjects and our students. Thriving classrooms take time to work together, integrate subject matter, and celebrate successes. For these reasons... We’ve incorporated interdisciplinary unit studies into our K-8 program. These units are designed as extended studies of a broad topic in which teachers collaborate across disciplines. Outdoor Learning Village Update

Dear MGCS Families and Friends, We’ve just enjoyed a tremendous week of celebrations marking the successes of our students and the graduation of our eighth grade class of 2019. Thank you for allowing us to serve your families! Before everyone heads off into the summer sunsets, we wanted to give you another update on our Outdoor Learning Village.   We are very excited at this opportunity to better serve our families and to expand the spiritual and educational experience for our students in all grades. Here are the latest news and updates on this important project.  

Spiritual Formation: Our End Goal for MGCS Graduates

Our students are challenged to grow not just academically and personally but spiritually, too.  We seek to produce graduates who are maturing followers of Jesus Christ equipped and inspired to impact the world for the glory of God.  Our end goals for each graduate of MGCS is that they will be rooted in faith and learning and able to nourish the world through effective stewardship and service.

Live What You Learn: Angie's Guiding Principles

Over the summer, as part of our commitment to expand STEM programs and experiential learning opportunities, we constructed a STEM lab and hired Angie Pleasant to serve as STEM coordinator. In this role, Angie works to integrate STEM programming and experiential learning throughout our curriculum. Here, Angie shares three guiding principles behind her passion for experiential learning, STEM programming, and the motto, “Live what you learn”.
