Winter Weather Reminders
With the winter weather bringing a chill to the air, we want to highlight some general guidelines and policies. Sometimes cold mornings give way to mild – even warm! — afternoons, so layering is always a good idea. Students are outside each day for recess or walking to different buildings, so please encourage them to dress accordingly. Please remember to label ALL of your child’s clothing items since many sweatshirts and sweaters look alike. While heavy outer coats may be any color or style, only uniform outerwear (such as MGCS sweatshirts or plain sweaters) may be worn in the classroom. For more detailed dress code information, refer to the student handbook p. 28-31.
Unfortunately, this time of year is also flu season, so it’s important to keep in mind the following policies regarding illness: students are required to stay out of school when they have a contagious illness or symptoms of a contagious illness. Those conditions and symptoms include:
-Fever within the past 24 hours
-Vomiting within the past 24 hours
-Diarrhea within the past 24 hours
-Strep throat (24 hours on medication)
-Pink eye (24 hours on medication)
-others: ringworm, pin worms, head lice or nits, scabies, impetigo, scarlet fever, measles, chicken pox
Children should be free of symptoms for 24 hours before they may return to school. Please refer to pg. 39 in the Parent/Student Handbook for more information.
